The Division of Cardiology at the VA Portland Health Care System is seeking an outstanding Academic General Cardiologist with expertise in Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging to join a highly collaborative and mission-driven cardiovascular program in Portland.

The ideal candidate will have strong interests in multimodality cardiovascular imaging, medical education, and academic program development. Expertise in echocardiography, cardiac MRI and/or Cardiac CT is particularly desirable.

Clinical Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive cardiovascular care across multiple clinical settings including:
- Outpatient continuity cardiology clinics
- Inpatient cardiology consult service
- Coronary care unit (CCU) attending service
- Telemedicine and electronic consultation services
Clinical responsibilities may also include:
- Interpretation of electrocardiograms and cardiac stress testing
- Transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography
- Electrical cardioversion
Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging
The division is committed to continued growth in advanced cardiovascular imaging and offers opportunities to participate in:
- Advanced echocardiography
- Cardiac MRI
- Multimodality imaging integration
- Imaging education and curriculum development

Academic Mission & Teaching
Teaching is a core mission of the cardiology division. Faculty work closely with medical students, internal medicine residents, and cardiology fellows from Oregon Health & Science University in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in:
- Bedside and clinical teaching
- Fellowship and resident mentorship
- Didactic education
- Development of educational curricula
- Teaching within imaging and general cardiology
Clinician-educator faculty are encouraged to pursue leadership roles in educational and clinical programs, while clinician-researchers are supported in developing productive academic research programs.

Qualifications
Qualified candidates should:
- Be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiovascular Disease
- Have completed an accredited cardiology fellowship
- Be eligible for unrestricted medical licensure
- Demonstrate strong clinical and interpersonal skills
- Have expertise or advanced training in cardiovascular imaging
Certification or eligibility in Echocardiography is strongly preferred.

- A Recruitment/Relocation Incentive may be offered.
- This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
- Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
- Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
- Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
- Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
- CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
- Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
- Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.

Requirements
U.S. Citizenship. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
